She was 164’ 6” in length, 32” 6” in beam with a maximum draft of 4’. The steamship operated on the Ohio River from it’s base in Cincinnatti, OH. The Greenbrier tended navigational aids on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers until decommissioned on 1947. The clock is in very fine original unrestored condition. A fine quality, ca. 1962, model of the Greenbrier is in the Smithsonian Collection. Below is a link to a video of J. Edgar Hoover boarding and leaving the Greenbrier commemorating the opening of the Ohio River channel in 1929. The Greenbrier is shown about 15 minutes into the video. Neat stuff! It’s amazing how provenance creates a special connection to a piece. Email me if you have questions.
