Gilbert Regulator No. 8 Hanging (Sold)
Item ID: 1049 - This is a ca. 1900, Gilbert Regulator No. 8, Hanging Jewelers Regulator. This is, in my opinion, the finest clock ever made by the William Gilbert Clock Company of Winsted, Connecticut. While the standing version of this clock is quite rare, the hanging version of this clock is seen much less often. The magnificent walnut case is 8' 7" tall and 33" wide. The clock retains the original finish which has aged to a fine patina. The perfect porcelain dial is 12" in diameter. The hands are original. All of the glass is original with minor touchup to the putty. The pinwheel movement with center sweep second hand has been serviced and is in perfect condition. The huge lyre pendulum is simply gorgeous. The clock keeps amazingly accurate time. There is a presentation placque below the door that reads "Presented by Noble Walter C. Cubberley" which supports the spoken history that the clock lived in the Shriner's Hall in Trenton, NJ for more than 90 years. This timepeice is a very fine original example of an exceedlingly rare Gilbert hanging jewelers regulator. View the photos for additional information and email me if you have questions.
